Havant and Hayling Bowmen acknowledges a duty of care and is committed to ensuring that safeguarding practices reflect statutory responsibilities, government guidelines and complies with Archery GB requirements.

This policy aims to ensure that all people have a positive experience of sport within the club regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic background, and are protected from abuse whilst participating in archery or outside activity.

As part of our safeguarding Havant and Hayling Bowmen will:

• promote and prioritise the safety of children and at-risk individuals

• ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities and is provided with the appropriate learning opportunities to recognise and respond to signs of abuse, neglect and exploitation

• ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of incidents and concerns of abuse, and support provided to individual/s who raise concerns

• ensure that confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored 

• prevent the employment/deployment of unsuitable individuals

• ensure robust safeguarding arrangements and procedures are in operation

Havant and Hayling Bowmen acknowledge that some individuals, including those with disabilities or those from ethnic minority communities, can be particularly vulnerable to abuse. We accept the responsibility to take reasonable and appropriate steps to ensure their welfare.

This policy is mandatory for everyone involved in Havant and Hayling Bowmen Archery Club, including attendees at courses and events. Failure to comply with the policy and procedures must be addressed without delay and may ultimately result in dismissal from the club or exclusion from courses and events.

Making a safeguarding disclosure

Beth Horton is the safeguarding officer for Havant and Hayling Bowmen and is the first point of contact to report any safeguarding concerns, and can be contacted by email at beth@hhbowmen.co.uk. Incidents and concerns can also be reported anonymously to ArcheryGB. Report a concern to ArcheryGB here.

All safeguarding records are to be stored digitally in a password protected location. Records will be retained for no longer than current safeguarding and/or data protection legislation allows.
