Gordon Martin (1925 - 2018) was a founding member of the Havant & Hayling Bowmen which has now been active for 27 years. During his lifetime, Gordon was the consummate sportsman, who excelled at most of the sports he took part in.
Gordon came to archery later in life, along with golf and bowls, all of which he participated in with as much enthusiasm as he shown all of his younger years. He was a dedicated club member who used his not inconsiderable talent to encourage and promote younger members to love his sport as much as he did. He contributed greatly to all club activities and became one of the club's first instructors.
At the great age of 92, Gordon was still shooting and turning up regularly for the club's Tuesday morning shoot, affectionately known as 'The Old Git's Club'. He will be greatly missed by all those who were privileged to have known him and who shared his enthusiasm for camaraderie and joy that sport can offer.
